NIU Visual Communication Program Application

Portfolio Submission

You are to submit a minimum of 10 projects with a maximum of 20 individual files. The submission button at the bottom of this page will allow you to upload your various files.

A project file can have multiple pages such as a multi page PDF, or more than one file associated with it. For example you may have a book design that is 20 pages, that would be one PDF file and count as one project. A motion graphic .mov would be another file. A visual identity project could have multiple components, but they could all be in one PDF file, so that might include a logo page, letterhead, envelope, etc, each as a page of the one PDF file. Additional elements of a visual identity system (such as a poster and web design screen shot) should be separate files.

If you have questions regarding your submissions, email professor, Perrin Stamatis, at pstamatis@niu.edu.

The selection of pieces in your portfolio tells us a great deal about you. So, thoughtfully and carefully choose the best work to show your design skills and potential for further development. Your portfolio should include design work, such as:

  • Brochures
  • Posters
  • Logos
  • Publications: Books, Booklets, Magazine layouts
  • Typographic work
  • Packaging
  • Interactive design
  • Motion design

Requirements

  • You must present a minimum of 10 individual projects, but no more than 20 files.
  • Document and image files must be JPEG or PDF.
  • Videos files must be MOV or MP4.
